I asked him about this controversy and his explanation was that Unix Review is owned by a larger company that has a policy on the free subscriptions that they must adhere to. He also said, they (the people at Unix Review) are trying to get this changed. He acknowledged that several people had sent e-mail and that they were hoping these letters when shown to the higher ups would help to convince them.
