While I wouldn't especially mind one vendor's taking that stand, I would certainly steel clear of any who did! Fortunately, if one vendor decided not to support twisted-pair ethernet, others would continue to support it. We sell, install, and service networked personal computers. We usually install them in existing older buildings. Today, most of these buildings are full of disused telephone wiring, left over when the 1A2 key telephone system was replaced by a modern system. The major cost of installing a system is neither the wire nor the network components, it's the labor involved in running the wire. If there is existing twisted-pair in the ceilings, walls, and equipment closets, it reduces the overall cost of installing a network by a factor of more than 50%! And it works! It may not be technically elegant, but it under-sells coax every time. That is not a dumb idea. That is not totally unnecessary. -- Dave Levenson Voice: (201) 647 0900 Westmark, Inc.
