The performance gains for "typical" programs are between a factor of 3 to 7; programs doing mainly arithmetic with NUMERIC DIGITS 9 on one end, or those emitting mostly host commands on the other extreme, will naturally fall outside this range. EXECs using the INTERPRET construct cannot be compiled, but they can call other compiled programs. The planned availability date was June 1989 (i.e. now), but I am not sure if this is indeed the case. Check with your local IBM marketing office (the product number is 5664-390).
