According to the doc using a ';' instead of a ':' should result in an
mail alias being displayed in an address. So for example:

        mygroup; a@sun, b@vax, c, d 
        others; x, y, z
        all; mygroup, others

Should display just "mygroup" in the address instead of a@sun,b@vax,c,d.
The same thing should happen with multiple aliases too ?

This does not seem to be case with my aliases, which expand to the
addresses in the alias !
