Why should I or anyone else in the Internet community go out and 
do all that work?   Why do you think that Apple would pay attention
to those RFC's when they ignored all the others?  I think if we
seriously believed that we could avoid this grief by doing that
work, I'm sure I could get a bunch of people together and do it.

But I don't think it would do any good.  NIH isn't a conscious 
decision, it's a state of mind...
