Basically agree with all this.  It is clearly useful to map the X thru ASN.1.
Use of ROS would be worth considering.

Another reason for mapping onto ACSE is that it will give natural hooks for
authentication and encryption services, which you would not get from a
mapping onto transport.   X is clearly in need of these services!
