Here are the System V functions to use when confronted with BSD applications:

      BSD               SysV
      --------------    --------------
      gethostname       uname   (use the "nodename" structure member)
      index             strchr
      lstat             stat    (no symbolic links under System V)
      bzero             memset(.., 0, ..)
      rindex            strrchr
      getwd             getcwd
