Hi, does anyone have sources or references for displaying Mercator or
"flattened side of globe" projections of the Earth, preferably in an X
Window widget?  Both map data and viewing programs are needed.

As part of a network simulation I am building, I need to 
display a map with pretty little satellite images moving 
around it, with the network connections forming and breaking 
as the sat's change relative positions (guess who wants this toy ;-)
