Actually, I know one hardware hacker who is toying with the idea - apparently the big problem is in the clocks, which are provided to the A1000 chip set, but are outputs on the A500/2000 chip set. It requires cutting a lot of traces on the board to dike out the old circuitry. But it's still in the "probably never" category, so, like myself, you are out of luck.
