As it happens, I got a flyer in the mail yesterday (aren't we all on the
same mailing list ;-) from a company that claims to have just what you
want.  From their stuff:

"DME now provides display manager emulation on terminals and PCs
connected remotely to your Apollo network via Ethernet, X25, Apollo
PCI token ring card, dial-in, or SIO lines."
