You can download Giffer 1.03 from SUMEX at Stanford (ftp 36.44.0.6)
and use it to view gif files on the Macintosh (the program is beerware
i.e. send the author a case of beer or $20!). However, I think you 
requested viewing gif file on a Mac+ - since most, if not all files are
more than 2 colours the final images will be disappointing (on a Mac II
at 256 colours they are impressive).
