I'm contacting two actual distributors tomorrow, but I thought people might appreciate an update. First, what am I talking about? Well, when Apple announced System 7.0 to the net (nice of them), I posted about pooling net Mac II owners to buy PMMUs from Motorola, so we can have virtual memory without paying Apple $450. So. The local Motorola office has revealed that the MC68851 RC16A, the 16 MHz model, is listed at $202 for 1-4 chips. This looks pretty good, but remember shipping costs, and California's wonderful sales tax. Since I now have e-mail from about 25 interested netters, we may well get into a lower price range. I hope so. Here's a list of the people who have expressed interest. I got the addresses by grepping From:, in case you can't tell ;-) , so please let me know if I have a bad address. If your name isn't here, and you want it to be, drop me a line. If it is and oughtn't to be, let me know. Now is also a good time for discussion on the actual purchase. I don't want to have anyone afraid that I'll head for the Outback with his money, but I don't have the cash reserves to pay for the order and then bill everyone, either. Suggestions? I'll post again as events warrant. PMMU List: From: gillies@noao.edu From: Jacob Ben-david Zimmerman From: Dave Platt From: David D Zoo Zuhn From: Christopher Chow From: "Murat N.
