The $750 drives were only half the size (i.e. ~150 Meg) - though that was 2 months ago and in the meantime, CDC has sold their disk-manufacturing division to Seagate, I hear, so the prices for "leftovers" may have gotten even cheaper (maybe). Anyway, $2200 for the 300+meg drive is not quite as bad as I made you believe.... still, I'd expect you might be able to do better. CDC drives are, however, considered by many to be top quality. the volume in comp.sys.mac is getting to me; won't someone take the initiative and propose spinning off some more sub-groups that one can unsubscribe from (and stay semi-sane) ?! I don't think USEnet should became a FOR-SALE and WANTED bulletin-board and bazaar, but I'd vote for comp.sys.mac.for-sale and ~.wanted just to be able to "discriminate". but those 2 groups would not really be enough to solve the volume problem. It would be preferable, actually, if one could think of sub-group names that one would want to subscribe to, and unsubscribe comp.sys.mac ... someone with energy (and a thick skin) out there to carry the flag? I'm not sure if the summer is a good or bad time to do that (I can see arguments for both positions) What I'd really wish for is a moderated for-sale/wanted group where the moderator would filter/discourage articles with a) incomplete description b) unreasonable prices or sales conditions c) items deserving only local/regional distribution. what a bag of worms, though ... -- --------------------------> please send REPLIES to <------------------------ INTERNET: uhrig@mcc.com (if unavailable: werner@rascal.ics.utexas.edu) UUCP: ...!milano!werner ALTERNATIVE: werner@astro.as.utexas.edu OR werner@utastro.UUCP
