I'm also buying a modem.  I'm going to cheat and buy an IBM external 2400 baud
modem, and then buy a RS232-round pin adapter cable.  I have been told that
this will allow an IBM modem to work on my Mac just dandy fine...any
objections?

Also, what programs provide error checking during transmission?  The modem
I'm planning to buy probably doesn't have any hardwired error checking...
