Thanks to all the netters and SGI staff for the answers to my named problems.
I had the resolv.conf file in /etc instead of /usr/etc.  The file contains the
line

	domain erim.org

When I move it to /usr/etc I could resolve local host names without appending
the .erim.org

Also, to start up the name server before the NFS filesystems are mounted,
I moved the named startup code above the NFS mount code in the file
/etc/init.d/network.
