(Stands for systems environment package, or as we prefer, Somebody Else's Problem). We are looking for beta sites to bed this software down and for tool developers willing to enhance their products by interfacing to this software. The SEP provides abstract resource management through the use of a relational database. This is achieved by running this and associated managers on the control transputer in a largish switched transputer cluster. The managers allow switch setting, downloading resetting etc, using user or tool defined processor ids. Binding to physical resources is only made at download time, and only managers know the grubby details of transputer bus slot, switch architecture, control bus, etc. hence portability between machines that run the SEP and hence the jibe that its Somebody Else's problem. Other benefits include: multiple instances of one code without configuration changes multiple users when >1 host attached to control transputer a transputer relational data base for free! We currently support Supernode and Transtech racks, but are willing to supply sources of managers for user ports to other kit. We will have to make a charge for distribution and limited support, as we bootstrapping the company on this project. However it will be cheap and even if you dont like the SEP, you get the binaries of a single SQL engine. Please contact me for more details if you are interested.
