CDC claimed they never heard of any problem. MIPS said it must be hardware. The new release of the OS (RISC o/s 4.0) seemed to alleviate but not eleminate the problem. according to the MIPS people at usenix, it is a firmware bug in the drive (fixed by sending it back) that buggers up on big transfers (such as fsck might do).
