I've seen/worked with the beta release of SGI's version of X on a Personal 
Iris (have yet to install it on our 4D). The release is smoother then the 
alpha version, but still has problems with handling color unless you hack 
your code to ignore X's color routines and access the colormaps directly.
Sort of shoots the idea of portability in the foot.
