How about posting a note once in a while, answering basic questions like
this?  

Include --
FTP addresses, where the most current version of things can be gotten from,

Where to get "ports" for this or that machine.

Answers to some of those basic questions everybody asks -- you know
the list better than I do.

Bibliography of X documentation, books, etc.

Would a list of non-public domain products be permissible?  Everybody
asks about MOTIF, X on PC's, ... ( maybe not in this notesfile?  )

When release 4 is coming out, and what it will do that 3 doesn't.

Some of this could be constructed from old notes posted before.
And just post this note or notes once a month or so, so it is 
around for everybody to read.
Just a suggestion from somebody with a short-term memory.
