I was falling asleep and had just made a modification to .bashrc and meant to type source .bashrc but somehow managed to type (don't ask): bash$ bash .bashrc & The result is that bash seems to execute my .bashrc, return and then as soon as I type any character to my login shell, my login shell types out logout and logs out. The check for backgrounded jobs is not done, the shell simply logs out. While the above command line is non-sense I think the final result doesn't make sense either. Can anyone enlighten me as to why I get logged off?
