I did not say it this way because this does not accurately describe the situation I am talking about. If some day GNU software is banned due to user interface copyright, paying a fine would not enable me to continue distributing it. The fine would be *in addition* to giving up on GNU--not another alternative. (I considered the fine to be the less important of the two problems, so I didn't mention it.)
