Please refrain from FTPing during weekday afternoons (EST). This announcement primarily aimed at Canadian sites, especially those on ONET. Otherwise you have to go through the single link from ONET to NSFNET to get it from us. cnews.Z is a verbatim copy of the Official C News Release. It is in shar format (you uncompress and feed it to sh). We have no responsability whatsoever over the contents (it magically appeared in our uucp directory :-) nntp.1.5.5.Cdiffs contains diffs to nntp 1.5.5 (the latest official release) to make it work with C news. You need nntp 1.5.5 (nntp.1.5.5.tar.Z contains nntp 1.5 with all 5 official patch sets applied). cd to your nntp source directory, unshar the Cdiffs file there to create server/batch.c and and apply Cnews.diff by saying "patch -p < Cnews.diff". The patches for Cnews are in the Cnews release; I intend to keep nntp*Cdiffs current in respect to new releases of NNTP (note I did not say "I promise"). The news server around here is running the beta release of a few days ago in full production mode (we ran pre-alpha and alpha for 2 years before that). Our main feeds are via NNTP and UUCP, and we feed sites using NNTP,UUCP and mail. It all works on a Sun 3/180 server with workstation where 706 newsgroups are accessed over NFS by over 160 machines (some of them are large multi-user boxes).
