"Residents of Alberta's eight Metis settlements have overwhelmingly 
approved a $310 million land and compensation agreement with the 
province. ... Under the deal, the settlements  will gain control of oil
and gas development on their lands as well as a share of resource
royalties.  The province will retain ownership of resources."
