(X3 is the corresponding one on information processing.) Hence standards which they release will be X12.foo, just as X3 put out X3.64, etc. Not to be confused with CCITT letter.number standards, like X.25, X.400, etc. ANSI is letternumberdotnumber, while CCITT is letterdotnumber.
