Ummm... 

Hate to say it, but we do it just about every day. HP Australian
Software Operation (ASO) has an internet connection to HP's closed
subnet (and has had for about a year) which is regularly used for
telnet, ftp, etc to HP sites in the US, UK and Germany to name the
more common ones.
