There was actually a 1000 --> 2000 upgrade offer. I know, because I remember getting a flyer from Commodore about it. It was called something like the 1000+1000 program. You gave them your A1000 plus $1000 and you got a 2000. I didn't think it was a good enough deal to go for (and didn't have the thousand bucks anyway), so I kept my 1000. But it was offered.
