The discussion has been great. I've learned alot about files, directories, and links. I thought all of the contributors would be interested to know that having read all your comments and thought about what I do on my machine and how links work, I can see a good half dozen very very NON-trivial uses for links both hard and soft. If one of you would post a hacked up version of the file system that included soft links then Boy Howdy! I'm ready to use it!
