If the third party 5 1/4" drives work like Apple's, they would plug into the
back of your last 3.5" Apple drive.  3.5" drives are daisy chained with the
second drive plugged into the back of the first and the 5 1/4" drive plugged
into the back of the last 3.5" drive in the chain.  I think that Applied
Engineering's 5 1/4" drive has this capability, but I'm not sure.
