HOW GOOD is the Mac emulation for the ST?

I heard rumours that it is on average FASTER, that MIDI port is accessible
for use by standard Mac MIDI software, etc...

Is it cost effective to buy an ST when you really only want a Mac?

Does it emulate the Mac, Mac Plus, Mac II, Mac SE?
