It's not clear from your post if you've tried working on this problem from
within WP. At one level of the graphics (Alt-F9?) menu, there is an EDIT
option available. One of the choices there is to invert the image, black
to white. Another option in the same place allows youto specify monochrome
imaging for a picture grabbed off a color monitor.

I don't know if these will fix your problem, but they're worth trying.
