As of July 1, HP officially introduced the DeskWriter Printer... a Deskjet specifically designed for the Mac. (Boy it's been tough keeping quiet all this time!) It comes with a chooser level driver that has been tested on literally hundreds of the most popular mac applications. If you have heard bad things about the speed of DeskJet with the Mac, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the DeskWriter. Over a wide range of test documents, DeskWriter averaged 1 page per minute (Mac SE, 20MB HB, 1MB RAM) while the LaserWriter IINT managed to get 2.31 (much less than rated 8 PPM). It retails for $1195, so I would guess that $700 is not unreasonable for a street price. Drop me a note if you want more info, but you really have to see it in action to appreciate it. Rick Klaus rickk@hpvcfs1 Disclaimer: I am definitely biased since I designed the DeskWriter Hardware!
