    Is there any chance that the official X fonts might have their size ranges
    expanded?

("Official"?)  The fonts shipped on the MIT distribution have been contributed
at no charge, and we are very thankful to have them.  The companies that
donated them are in the font business, and I expect they would be happy to
sell you additional fonts; you can contact them directly.
