I have the *Subject* buffer on the left side of a vertical split, and the *Article* buffer on the right. Sometimes I even split the left window again so that I have the *Subject* buffer in the top half of the left side, the *Newsgroups* buffer in the bottom half of the left side and the *Article* buffer in the entire right side. If anything, this is too much flexibility :-)
