Many groups and ad hoc committees have been formed to support the movement. In Toronto, and southern Ontario, the Committee of Concerned Chinese Canadians Supporting the Democracy Movement in China (CCDC) was formed on May 20 in response to the grave situation in Beijing. CCDC consists of volunteers who share the common vision of the Chinese students calling for democratic reform through peaceful means. We are attaching a statement to declare our objectives. As the Movement enters into a different phase, we have broadened our scope with more long term objectives and strategies. We would like to establish contacts and communications with your organization. Please contact the undersigned or one of the spokespersons if you need further information regarding our objectives and activities. We look forward to your correspondence. Yours truly, Paul Kwan CCDC, Communication Coordinator __________________________________________________________________________ The Committee of Concerned Chinese Canadians Supporting the Movement for Democracy in China (CCDC) is a group of Chinese Canadians in Toronto who support the Chinese students' call for democratic reform in China through peaceful means. CCDC condemns the present Chinese regime's June 4 massacre and the post-massacre persecutions. CCDC was formed on May 20, 1989 in response to the democratic movement and the government crackdown in China. CCDC organized a rally on May 28 attended by over 5000 people and a demonstration in front of the Chinese Consulate on June 4 drawing over 30,000 participants, the largest demonstration ever in Toronto. The specific objectives of CCDC are: 1) to mount international pressure as a means to force the present regime in China to cease the killings and persecution of pro-democratic participants and their supporters; to force the People's Republic of China to adhere to the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights, 2) to provide assistance and support to those Chinese nationals, including students and visiting scholars, in Canada who were active in the pro-democracy movement. 3) to have the Chinese government recognize that the actions taken by the students, in pursuit of democratic reform, are patriotic and just, and as such the Chinese government should compensate both the wounded and the families of the martyrs. CCDC will pursue all peaceful channels available to achieve the above objectives. These include demonstrations, rallies, forums, lobbying, publicity, documentations, fund raising and networking with other organizations. CCDC would like to establish contacts and liaison with groups or organizations which share similar objectives or want to be kept informed of our activities. We hope that our networking effort will help to promote the formation of a national and international coalition to support the democracy movement in China. CCDC's six spokesperson are: Mr. Dick Chan, Ms. Dora Nipp, Ms. Connie Sam, Ms. Lan Sum, Dr. Joseph Wong, Mr. Eugene Yao.
