Listening to the modem there seems to be a fair bit of idle time. I can only conclude that the loss of performance is in the machines rather than the modems. My machine is a 20MHz 386 with Stallion serial I/O (super smart) at 19200. Nwnexus is a VAX 750 with unknown serial I/O at 9600 and unknown loading. I did enquire about the hardware and system load but got no response. From my own experience a VAX 750 runs out of puff in the CPU department very easily.
