In the discussion on lexxing FORTRAN, someone asked whether blanks could be
made significant in Fortran 8x.  They have not been made significant in the
old source form, because of the need to support old programs.  They have
been made significant in the new source form.  As someone else suggested,
the underscore character has been made legal in Fortran names (in both
source forms).
