Rumour has it that latter this year, or perhap early next year, Novell will
be releasing network server software that runs as a deamon under unix.  That
would make things MUCH easier.  You might try contacting Novell directly 
regarding this.

(By rumour, I mean that I know somebody at my hardware vendor that went to
 a seminar given by Novell on the subject.)
