Message-ID: <4930@ficc.uu.net> Date: 10 Jul 89 16:04:15 GMT Organization: Xenix Support, FICC Lines: 19 Let's say I have a friend in Australia, who wants to engage in electronic mail with me. Let's say, further, that this person is not on Usenet and can't get on Usenet. What sort of E-mail systems are available in Australia, and what commercial networks in the US are they gatewayed to? I've been told that there is a gateway between Midas in Australia and AT&T mail in the US, but that's all I know of. I'd rather not go with AT&T mail here because I don't have my own site... and the non-uucp interface to AT&T mail seems rather primitive. Is this a real gateway, or is it just a packet network that lets you call AT&T Mail from Australia a little more cheaply... this obviously won't do. The AT&T Mail people I spoke to were kind of uncertain, and MCI also mentioned Midas but referred to it purely as this kind of system. -- Peter da Silva, Xenix Support, Ferranti International Controls Corporation.
