It is a 5.25 half-height 80 MB drive. I didn't know it existed until recently and I'm interested in getting one. I was looking for a Quantum 80 3.5 inch drive, but my enclosure is designed for a 5.25 drive and I was hoping the 280 would cost less. I was just told by a local dealer that the 280 is no longer produced. Is this true? How long ago did production cease? Does it have the same specs as the 80? (average access time, MTBF, etc) As I understand it the 80 (and 40) is rated at 19 ms ave access time but it has a read-ahead cache that reduces the ave access time to about 11 msec. Is this true? How large is the cache? I'm going to connect the thing to my A1000 with a Supra controller. I also was given a KickStart Eliminator but now that I've read a posting about the Comspec controller I wish I had gotten that. Apparently the Comspec copies KS to the disk and allows loading of KS from the disk image. Neat! One more thing - anyone out there using the Supra 4x4 along with a StarBoard II? I'm worried that I'll get bit by the expansion bus problems. :(. One more "one more thing" - I grounded the PALS as specified by an Amazing Computing article. I installed 4 jumpers on the Daughter board, but apperntly you must also attach the PALS ground to a ground on the mother board. Are my PALs grounded OK or not? Thanks!
