Without it, you must hit return to start formatting before the drive will become "busy". With it, the drive goes "busy" as soon as the format program has loaded. I suspect that this option is there for the few poor souls who have crashed a floppy so badly that just putting it in gurus the machine (hence the undocumentedness of it). Format it with inhibit and don't put the disk in until it prompts you to press return. Note that DiskCopy inhibits right away; I wonder why? -- Darren
