One addition to Matt's Lattice review, for those who can take advantage 
of it.  Lattice has an educational discount policy, 50% off the 
advertised price when you order direct from Lattice.  To be eligible 
they must ship to a school address, there may be other ways to be 
eligble that's just one they told me.  This applies to the C++ compiler
too.
I ordered ours today.
