Lines: 42 There are a couple of ways that you could go... I just recently finished installing a 'Homebrew' HD on my //GS (42MB). One way to do it is by purchasing a SCSI drive, a SCSI card (if your Apple doesn't already have one), and then build your own case and supply a power supply to run it (hopefully w/ a fan.) This way typically costs about $125 for the card and anywhere from $350-600 for the drive. As for the power supply and case? Well, you could hack an old IBM :-) for its supply and build a case out of crap in your basement. OR, You could purchase an IBM HD (non SCSI imbedded) w/ either RLL or MFM protocol and then purchase an SCSI card for your apple and a converter from a company called ADAPTEC (they make cards for this purpose - $125 and up). OR, Do what I did. Buy an IBM HD (MFM) and a MFM controller board ($195) form PERLIN Electronics. All told - I figure that I saved about $1100 by going this route (vs. buying an Apple HD) and it works faster too. Good Luck! -Karsten ***************************************************************************** * UUCP: {amdahl!bungia, uunet!rosevax, chinet, killer}!orbit!pnet51!nevar * * ARPA: crash!orbit!pnet51!nevar@nosc.mil * * INET: nevar@pnet51.cts.com * *---------------------------------------------------------------------------* * DISCLAIMER: I disclaim the fact that I do not have a real disclaimer. :-) * *---------------------------------------------------------------------------* * E.
