Can someone post a tutorial on the relationships (if any)
between the various font files associated with TeX such as .gf,
.tfm, .pk ? 

What is virmf.ttp- how do you use it?

Any relationship to gdos fonts; natural or forced ?

I have access to the TeX files (most anyway) for the ST and font
files used on our SUN. Is there anyway I can preview TeX files
prepared on the SUN with its (or derivative) fonts using dvist?
At present all I get is font not found except for the dvist.dvi
file packaged with dvist. Similarly files TeX'd on the ST can't
be displayed/printed by the SUN (can't find fonts).

I am sure a tutorial on this subject would be useful to many!
