You are "very leary" of their products because you did not read and follow the instructions regarding termination resistors? Doesn't that strike you as a bit unfair? Your misuse of a product does not make it defective. We have sold/used MANY Seagate drives over the years and have a very very low failure rate. Not bad, considering they are one of the lowest priced drives available from major distribution. By the way, I am in no way connected with Seagate or any other manufacturer of hard drives.
