Now, when I type
M-x shell
I get this message:
Process shell exited abnormally with code 1

Probably not a bug, but, this used to work for me,
in emacs 18.5x < 18.54, & Sun os < 4; it works in 18.54 on
an HP-UX machine (ie, this version gives me a usable shell).
All these architectures built from the same source.  
Both emacs & the sunos have just been upgraded.

Does anyone have any suggestion on how I mite debug and fix this?
