Here are some interesting news stats:

1) 2688 sites are listed as receiving news (from #U lines in maps)

2) If the average feed is 3 MB a day thats 8.046 GBytes a day.

3) If the average data rate is 1600 BPS (50% compression 'blazer)
then thats 1468 hours of modem time a day.

4) If it costs $0.0031 per K (uunet night rate) then USENET
costs $25,598 a day to run. (about $10 million a year).

This does not include unmapped sites, mail etc.
