Look in inews. It's a shell script and contains these lines somewhere:

# echo "Lines: `		# sop to msb, just uncomment to use
# if test -r $HOME/.signature; then
#	(cat $inbody; echo '-- '; sed 4q $HOME/.signature) | wc -l
# else
#	wc -l <$inbody
# fi
# `"

As it says, uncomment to use. If you have the NN newsreader, you will want
this information. Poorly documented though. (And it's wrong by 1 line)
