The spool directory is not created until an article arrives for the group. For example, in the last day or two, talk.rape was created, but there had been no articles posted to it. I just posted a (very local) test article there, which led to these messages in my log: Jul 11 21:43 dinosaur.cis.ohio-state.edu posted ng talk.rape subj 'test' from karl@dinosaur.cis.ohio-state.edu (Karl Kleinpaste) Jul 11 21:43 dinosaur.cis.ohio-state.edu make newsgroup talk.rape in dir /usr/spool/news/talk/rape The directory was created when the first article arrived.
