Probably a very simply explanation (Anyone who knows more, feel free to correct this). TB family modems do DAMQAM. The DAM part stands for Dynamic Adaptive Multicarrier. Now if memory serves, there are 500+ carrier frequencies available to a TB, of which it will use at most about 400 (?). Now, suppose it has such a grody line that it can only use 200 of them. Can you say lost bandwidth? There, I knew you could. wobble.uucp is in WA, so to the Bay Area it's about 1500 miles, but maybe twice that far to VA. ....
