David H. Hackworth's (US Army, Ret.) book, "About Face," the story of his life in the infantry, from his days in the Trieste US Troops, to Korea, a tour in the reserve, and his many years of service in Vietnam. I haven't read much military biography, but his accounts of his battles, his training, his evolution as a soldier, and his eventual disillusionment with the Army were thoroughly fascinating. He goes on to make a number of suggestions that, he says, the Army will have to make to become a decent fighting force. I wholeheartedly recommend "About Face" to anyone who is interested in reading about battles from the infantryman's perspective, and those interested in the military establishment. Have any sci.military'ers read his book? What did you think? Ben -=-=-=-= ben@cunixc.cc.columbia.edu rutgers!columbia!ben, benus@cuvmb.bitnet
